A large family home just north-east of Bristol, fitted with thirteen 400W Trina panels and a 9.5 kWh battery — an estimated 3,819 units (kWh) of electricity a year, worth roughly £975 off the household’s bills.
Two things make this one worth describing. The first is that every panel has its own optimiser, so the household can see what each individual panel is producing rather than one number for the whole roof. That matters on a roof where a chimney or a tree shades different parts at different times of day: without optimisers, one shaded panel drags down the string it sits in.
The second is how the battery is wired. Rather than replacing the existing inverter with a single combined unit, we added the battery alongside it. That approach keeps the panel-level monitoring intact, and it’s usually the right answer for a home that already has solar on the old Feed-in Tariff — you can add storage without disturbing the existing system or the payments you already receive for it.
